Getting Inspired

Hello reader! I am mark. I am your very average and very bog standard self taught guitarist. I am going to tell you my story of learning to play and how it now even helps pay for a little at the bars i occasionaly play.

When I was 13 I had this music teacher, and boy was she ugly. At that time of my life I was a little sporty kid whose main focus was to one day turn into a professional athlete. Guitars, drums, pianos and all things musical were hobbies that I could ill afford to spend my precious time doing, when I could be practicing sport. Nonetheless, there I was, sat in a music class with guitar in hand. Playing the simplest of chords, I could have never imagined how beautiful it was.

Funnily enough, after the small time I played guitar in class I switched schools and country, and didn’t take music again in school. I was embarrassed that I wouldn’t be good enough, so chose other subjects. But during this year, I met someone who inspired me to play. Living in a dorm, you’re basically bottled up with 30 other kids living habits, and this one guy just would not stop playing guitar! Not that it bothered me, I thought he was amazing. Often I would just hang out with him listening to him play, and talk about music.

My interest was sparked, and I was ready to pick it up for good and learn to play.
I returned home in the summer, and with a wave of inspiration, dug out my mothers old guitar from the loft which had been idling away getting dusty. She, being and a ‘retired’ guitarist herself, took quite a bit of interest in my new endeavour and taught me a quick thing or two. Namely, changing the strings and getting it tune. And there I was. A guitar in hand, ready to start.
